The
California Postsecondary Education Commission invited Linda Darling-Hammond,
Ed. D., to address grant project participants at the Improving Teacher Quality
Program Annual Project Director's Meeting in Los Angeles on February 4, 2011.
Dr. Darling-Hammond delivered a timely presentation on how to develop and
assess effective teaching in our schools. The conclusions derived from her
research and expertise demonstrated the importance of the Improving Teacher
Quality Program. Not only does the program reflect the kind of professional
learning that Dr. Darling-Hammond identified as the most effective and long
lasting, but it also addresses the very real and under-served need for ongoing
professional development in California and the nation's schools to assure deep
pedagogical and content knowledge in all of our teachers.
